“Eighteen art critics”
Sir,—The abusive group of signatories must know that it is the ministrative duty of City Councillors to question the works purchased for the Art Gallery*. My particular comment was not intended to criticise the skill of the artist, but to refer jokingly to the bizarre giant-like fishermen portrayed in his painting, which T think will introduce a unique feature in the gallery. I feel sure Trevor Moffitt will, good-humouredly, receive the council’s criticism in the right spirit because as
a professional art critic he gives plenty to others. Nevertheless the council unanimously approved the purchase of Mr Moffitt’s work: “Fishermen on Riverbank.”— Yours, etc., REG H. STILLWELL. November 21, 1970.
