McNeill now has one for himself
The enthusiasm aroused by ■ Mr Wallace McNeill’s multi-j sponsorship plan for the Gar-. den City Golf Classic is such that if the present level can be maintained, the financial success of the event would be assured.
Yesterday, a further 17 sponsors took out $25 shares and this meant the completed sale of the second hole and a start made on the fourth. Mr McNeill’s scheme has now sold three holes; he was previously responsible for the seventh and fourteenth being taken.
In recognition of his efforts, the organisers have named the fourth hole —the one at present being sold—the “Wallace McNeill” hole.
Yesterday’s sponsors were: Modem Motor Bodies, Ltd; G. K. Field, Ltd; Prince of Wales Hotel; Ashleigh Courts Motel: Hornsby and Tapper, Ltd (two shares); Shepherd and Kimex, Ltd; J. Burburough and Sbn, Ltd; Urquhart’s Service Station, Ltd; M. J. Robertson, Ltd; G. B.
ID. Prints; the Canterbury (Drug Company, Ltd; Howard I Smith, Ltd; Dana Upholstery, Ltd; Huntsbury Butchery; Burnside Butchery; Amuri Motors, Ltd; Stevensons’ Pies (two shares). To complete the sale of all remaining holes, another 120 $25 sponsors are required; and the organisers are hopeful that businessmen in the larger suburban areas and in towns such as Rangiora and Ashburton wall join forces under Mr McNeill’s scheme. There are now three holes which carry $lOOO hole-in-one prizes. They are the tenth (David Worth, Ltd), the seventh (Kiwi Bacon Company, Ltd), and the fifteenth (Lane, Walker, Rudkin, Ltd). Yesterday a number of people attempted to make contact with the organisers and those who failed to do so, or other interested parties, should telephone Mr J. L. Sullivan (home 41-156, business 30-099), or Mr J. W. Soundy (home 584-478, business 44-105).
