INJURED THIGH
Lawry has to rest (N Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. The Australian cricket captain, W. M. Lawry, who suffered a tom muscle inside his right thigh in a Sheffield Shield match last Saturday, will fly to Sydney next Thursday to have his injury examined by the Australian board of control doctor. Lawry withdrew from the Victoria side in the shield match against New South Wales in Sydney yesterday. The former New South Wales captain, J. Benaud, dominated the opening day’s play in the Shield match scoring 130 not out in his team’s impressive start of 348 for four. G. A. Davies made 61 not out, and A. Turner 59 and A. Steele 45. For Victoria, A. N. Connolly took two for 54.
