Man killed, nine hurt
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 20. One man was killed and nine others injured in. a spectacular, head-on collision involving a van and a small bus yesterday afternoon. The accident occurred on Awarua Road* about two miles from the Tiwai aluminium smelter site. The dead man was: Mervyn James Church, aged 37, of Invercargill, who was alone in the van. He was a security officer at the smelter site. Four of the injured men were admitted to Kew Hospital, but none of them with serious injuries. The driver of the bus, Trevor Raymond Wilson, aged 25, of Princes Street, Invercargill, was admitted to hospital with a fractured right leg. Five other passengers were treated and discharged. The bus was carrying employees from the site smelter to Invercargill.
