N.Z. market follows leaders down
Most shares followed the market leaders lower on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. Turnover rose and sellers dominated trading. Falls held a margin of three to one over rises and the market index slumped 2.37 to 297.76.
Apart from two special situations rises were marginal. Alex Harvey jumped 15c to 445 c on the news of a joint manufacturing venture with Comalco. R. and W. Hellaby gained 5c in response to news of the bonus and cash issues. The cumulative weight of bearish company reports and economic news from home and abroad showed its effect in the list of falls. Losses were recorded in all sections of the market, with some sharp falls among leaders.
