CONTRACT TO SHIP FRUIT
tNew Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 20. The British Shipping Conference has won the contract to ship New Zealand apples to North America next year.
Earlier this year the Apple and Pear Board decided to take the United Kingdom contract away from the Conference Lines and award it to Scandinavian interests. The general manager of the
Apple and Pear Board (Mr D. L. Waller) announced the result of tenders for the North American contract today. The contract is for 110,000 cartons of apples and 20,000 of pears to be shipped during March, April and May. Next year the J. Lauitzen Shipping Company, Denmark, will take two-thirds of the board’s exports to Britain, Europe, and Scandinavia. The remaining third will be carried by the Israeli-owned line, Maritime Fruit Carriers, Ltd. The decision to move away from the Conference for the cartage of fruit to Europe was made after a board investigation showed it would save money. The terms of the Conference’s successful bid for the North American trade were not released.
