Farm fertiliser shed

This concrete fertiliser shed capable of holding 1800 tons of lime and fertiliser is on Mr D. Mouat’s 5500acres Mangaorapa station near Porangahau in Hawke’s Bay. This year 1000 tons of lime is being spread on the property. Tip trucks carting the lime or superphosphate to the farm simply run up a ramp and their load is dumped into an under-

ground hopper, from which it is fed on to an elevator belt. The whole system is electrically operated from the unloading ramp and a push of a button starts the elevator which carries the fer- • tiliser to the apex of the gable roof. From here it can be run off at any given point. , The shed is also being fitted with a mixing plant so that lime and super may be

mixed on the spot at any rate necessary for a particular paddock. For example one paddock will receive 15cwt of lime and 3cwt of superphosphate. This will be mixed in the ' shed and spread immediately by bulk topdressing equipment, which is capable of covering practically the whole statibn. The mixing plant will also be capable of adding any trace elements considered necessary.
