Radiographer wins award

A Christchurch radiographer has been awarded the Agfa Gevaert Award this week for the best radiographic paper presented at the annual conference of the New Zealand Society of Radiographers. She is Miss Judith Hutton, aged 23, the daughter of the flautist, Mr Trevor Hutton, and Mrs Hutton.

Miss Hutton, from the radio therapy department of the Christchurch Hospital, delivered a 15-minute paper on the subject of localisation for super voltage therapy. Her paper was one of six submitted by radiographers throughout New Zealand. The award was open to all radiographers attending the conference at Wanganui. The award, which has in the past consisted of a medal, also carried a $5O prize for the first time this year. Miss Hutton qualified three years ago after two years training at the Christchurch Hospital. She has been working in the hospital’s radio therapy department since then. Her work is with therapeutic radiography as against X-ray radiographers who are diagnostic, she said. To qualify for training radiographers must have University Entrance with at least two science subjects. Miss Hutton plans to use the prize money to assist her to travel overseas at some future date to gain more experience in her work.
