Eighteen notices of mo-tion-most of them concerning the "partiality” or otherwise of the Speaker (Sir Roy Jack) —were accepted in Parliament this afternoon. The J. R. MoKenzie Trust Amendment Bill completed its report stage. Ministers replied to 16 questions. The Hospital Employment (Transitional and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill was given a first reading, a second reading pro forma, and referred to the Social Services Committee. The Christchurch Tramway District Amendment Bill was read a third time.
The Waimakariri River Improvement Amendment Bill was read a second time, as well as the Taupo County Council (Rates Remission and Postponement) Empowering Bill and the Auckland Regional Authority Amendment Bill (No. 2). After a division, urgency was taken on the committee stages of 17 bills.
