Survey on use of seat belts
(N.Z. Press As«ociation> WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. Motor vehicle seat belts will be checked and a survey taken of those who wear them while motoring during this year’s summer holiday travel vehicle fitness campaign. Announcing this today, the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) said the campaign: would run for one week from! November 23, during which: time traffic officers and' vehicle inspectors of the! Ministry would carry out' road-side checks of all classes of vehicles. These checks would be directed mainly at lights., brakes, tyres, steering, and seatbelts and their use, but other parts of a vehicle which came into warrant or certificate of fitness inspec-i tions would also be included.! Local authority traffic departments had been invited to join in the campaign, which aims at encouraging motorists to ensure that their vehicles are fit for summer holiday travel.
