Goldy Girl ready for bold sprint

••The Press” Special Service WANGANUI. Goldy Girl worked in fine style at Wanganui yesterday and is obviously poised to test her open sprint rivals in the Colyton Handicap at Feilding tomorrow. Trials were held 35ft out on the course proper, whiclt

had been watered this week, so times were not as fast as usual.

With her race-day rider, J. Messent, aboard, Goldy Girl went over a mile, coming from the five in Imin 4 2-5 sec, the last three taking 37 2-ssec. Though she has not raced for more than a month she is very forward. The Levin entry, Cally Rai, pleased with her solo three furlongs in 37 4-ssec. She should be hard to beat at Levin,

The Ohakune visitor, Harkins, was not ridden out, but he still had Highland Crest covered after three in 41sec. Highland Crest is not as forward as his partner. The high-weight candidate, Red Wolf, took 55sec for a half-mile, the last three in 41sec. He should benefit from his Feilding outing. Astral Flight took Imin 20sec for six furlongs, the last three in 40 2-ssec. He was eliminated at Levin. Sir Pal, which comes from the same stable, was given a quiet three furlongs in 40sec, and Exempt showed his customary speed to cover three in 38 2-ssec. He will

run at Feilding rather than Levin. Last week’s maiden winner, Amicos, was given a three-furlong sprint, which required 40 4-ssec. He looks well.

Wild Star, which may need his high-weight outing, took 40sec for three furlongs. His race-day rival, Royal Tuscan, looks a better proposition. He worked kindly on the plough but was not timed. D. Strawbridge has recovered from a fractured arm and will resume riding at Feilding tomorrow.
