Summer Flight retired
(N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE. Summer Flight, the New Zealand-bred winner of the 1969 Grand National Steeplechase at Flemington, has been retired. The former New Zealand trainer, T. R. Howe, turned Summer Flight (Summertime— Fast Flight) out for a long spell when he suffered a leg injury not long after his big victory. The gelding was hacked on a farm throughout the winter and then brought back into work but' he has not stood the' preparation and has been retired. Brother Bart (Golovine — Insolvent), which gave Howe a big double last winter when he won the Grand National Hurdle, is back in full work and doing well.
