TEAMS IN DOUBT

Federation Cup event (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PERTH. Australia, the defending country, has been seeded number one for the Federation Cup women’s tennis championship next month. Britain is second, followed by the United States and France. However, two of Australia’s top players, Misses J. Dalton and K. Melville, may be ineligible for the tournament. They were suspended by the United States association because they were paid expenses to which they were allegedly not entitled while appearing in an invitation tournament at Houston in September. The United States is similarly affected, with seven players under suspension— Mrs B. J. King, Misses N. Richey, J. Heldman, R. Casals, P. Bartkowicz, K. Pigeon and V. Ziegenfuss. However, it is believed that the ban on the players may have been lifted and the Australian association has not been told and has written to its American counterpart for clarification of the situation.

Britain will be represented by Miss V. Wade, Mrs A. Jones and Miss W. Shaw.
