JUNIORS NAMED
Two tennis squads
Canterbury Slazenger and Howe Shield junior tennis squads to train under the Rothman’s grant for the round-robin tournament to be held at North Shore from January 25-29 were announced yesterday. They are:— Boys. N. Pattinson (United), T. Mooney (Edgeware), R. Adams (Shirley), A. James (Beckenham), R. Versteeg (Beckenham). F. Versteeg (Beckenham). Girls. —P. Bamford (Shirley), S. Moore (Beckenham), A. Meates (Beckenham), G. Iredale ('Edgeware), J. Phillips (North Linwood), R. Smith (United). Rothmans have sponsored the whole contest for $5OOO. Of this some will be taken in travelling costs and publicity, and from the rest the associations receive $lOO each to employ professional coaches. The members of the Canterbury squads will now practice one night a week and play ranking matches in both junior and senior groups. They will be coached by the association’s professional, , Mr S. F. Clarke, and they will have physical training i sessions for which the Roth- j mans Sports Foundation have supplied recommended exercises.
