TRIUMPH CHANGES

Two popular Triumph sports-cars, the Spitfire and the GT6, have been given a “face-lift” for 1971 and been designated the Spitfire Mark 4 and the GT6 Mark 3. Both cars have slightly altered exterior lines and new trim, and the Spitfire has new rear suspension. The exterior changes comprise elimination of the bonnet rib-joints, and the GT6 has wider wheelarches and an altered bonnet contour. In both cars the rear ends have been remodelled along the lines of the Triumph Stag, which has a cut-off tail treatment. The cars have larger

windscreens than before, new flush-fitting doorhandles, and improved seating. The transverse leaf spring in the Spitfire’s rear suspension now pivots in the centre to reduce stiffness at the rear, and a heavier roll-bar is fitted at the front to compensate. The Spitfire engine has bigger bearings, and a higher rear-axle ratio is fitted. The car also has a new closer-ratio gearbox.
