INCREASE IN POISONING

Legislation imminent (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. A review of legislation concerning poisons was under way, the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) said in a statement today. The Minister invited groups or persons wishing to make submissions on the matter to contact the secretary of an advisory committee on commercial, household and agricultural poisons, appointed earlier this year. The great increase in the range of household, commercial and agricultural poisons available to the general public made the review necessary, said Mr McKay. “Last year there were 4154 notified cases of poisoning treated in New Zealand hospitals. “Of these, 763 involved babies of one year or under and 1780 involved children between two and five years of age.” •
