1 School for ! maladjusted 1 The appointment of the s principal for the South I Island’s first residential t school for maladjusted children, which will be established t in Christchurch, was an- < • nounced by the Department I of Education in Wellington * I yesterday. The principal will be Mr K. ‘ V. Congdon, who is guidance: l counsellor at Naenae College, i Mr Congdon will take up I his position as principal of ( the McKenzie Residential ' School in Yaldhurst Road, in: s February next year. Before spending seven i years in the Hutt Valley. Mr . Congdon was a teacher at . Papakura High School, Auck- ( land, where he had special responsibility for slow-leam- t ing children. He served as a < : primary teacher in a Nelson J Education Board district after : receiving his training at the f Ardmore Teachers’ College in 1 the early lS5Os. ; The McKenzie Residential ( Schoo] will have a staff of four specialist teachers and will cater for 25 maladjusted t children between the ages of i eight and 14. ! The purpose of the school < is to prepare pupils for a sue- « cessful return to their own homes and ordinary schools. a Referral to the school will be < by the Education Depart- r ment’s psychological service, t The only other school of its t type, at Mount Wellington, fi Auckland, has been in exis- I tence for five years. t
