Emergency landing

(From Out Own Reporter) TIMARU, Nov. 19. A Mount Cook Airlines DC3 made an emergency landing at Timaru Airport this morning when a motor failed on a flight from Christchurch to Mount Cook.

As the aircraft, carrying 26 passengers, was preparing to land at the airport about 10.26 a.m. with the motor immobilised, an engine from the Timaru Fire Brigade, equipped with foam compound, was passing through the gate, having completed the five-mile journey from the city within 11 minutes of receiving a call from the control tower. The aircraft, piloted by Captain R. Lowe, made a perfect landing. The passengers were taken the rest of the way to Mount Cook by coach. A spokesman for the airline said last evening that engineers, sent from Christchurch, had declared the engine unserviceable, although the exact fault was not known.
