DAIRY SALES

Prospects bright (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. General prospects for sales of New Zealand’s dairy products in the 197071 season were encourag- . tag, the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Carter) said in Parliament in answer to a question from Mr J. F. Luxton (Nat., Piako). The Minister said that butter sales in the United Kingdom were assured by the quota arrangement and sales to other markets of butter, butterfat and butter-based products continued to develop satisfactorily, and prices were firm. Cheese markets were strong, with prices generally exceeding those for last season, and 75 per cent of the new season’s skim milk powder production had already been sold or committed at prices above the average return last season, he said. The expected 1970-71 production of casein had already been committed for export. However, said the Minister, the longer-term outlook continued to be uncertain.
