Much better tone on Australian markets

Mining shares were a little erratic but generally firmer on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Among stocks to gain was C.R.A., up 85 cents to 1350, and Metals Exploration, up 20c to 670; its Bougainville partner New Broken Hill rose 40c to 1540. Among the speculatives, International Mining Corporation moved up again, this time jumping 22c to 220. Kathleen Investments rose 20c to 1510; MJ.M. Holdings rose 5c to 420, and Great Boulder rose 10c to 290. Emperor slipped back 10c to 90. Broken Hill South closed 5c down at 405. Poseidon rose 300 c to $63, Renison was up 20c to 1100. Oils were firm, industrials tended to improve, B.H.P. setting the pace with a rise-of 15c to 1300. C.S.R. rose 10c to 610.
