Belfast bomb

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BELFAST (Northern Ireland), November 18. A bomb today demolished a bar and blew in the door of a Methodist church on Belfast’s Crulin road, trouble spot between feuding Protestants and Roman Catholics. A girl was injured, and the explosion shattered the windows of more than 20 shops and 40 houses. Police and troops immediately threw up roadblocks throughout the city, stopping and searching all cars. A second explosion was heard near the city centre, but was not immediately located. Earlier, a bomb ripped the roof off a British customs post on the border with the Irish Republic four miles from Londonderry. No-one was hurt. The same post was blown up 14 years ago during an Irish Republican Army’s campaign against the partition of Ireland.
