Benefit rises
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Oct 27.
Price increases represent a serious and immediate threat to the people who are dependent upon social security and other benefits, the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) said in Parliament tonight. Speaking when he introduced the new economic measures, he said the Government had already announced it would increase social security benefits and war pensions when the decision of the Court of Arbitration was given on the current wage order application. The details would be announced after the Court’s decision and the Social Security Department was now making preparations so that the increase could be paid in December, he said.
