93 years old today
Well known to callers at the front office of “The Press” in the evenings until his retirement, Mr L. Taylor will celebrate his ninety-third birthday today. When he retired on May 31,
1961, Mr Taylor had been with "The Press” for 68 years and nine months. Bom at Christchurch in 1877, Mr Taylor joined “The Press” in August, 1892, as a message boy at IJd an hour when the company’s offices were in Cashel Street.
i He became a compositor, and ? was one of the first operators of the 255-key Monotype machines ’ . which the company in- ’ traduced to replace handj setting in the 1890 s. - For many years, Mr Taylor i was night clerk at the front office counter.
