Use of drugs and “pot”

Students at the University of Canterbury who smoke marijuana or “pot” mostly do so in the atmosphere of small groups of friends, according to the results of a preliminary research project on the topic. They also seem to be characterised by a number of other attitudes most seem to be largely Leftish, or disillusioned with politics. They also tend to disclaim attachment to established religious institutions, and seem to be concentrated more in arts faculties than others. But a great deal more research is required in order to find out some of the reasons why students begin taking drugs. However, some of the tentative conclusions reached so far are discussed in the accompanying article by Ken Coates.
