Familiar names
Some familiar names appear on the High School Old Boys Amateur Athletic Club’s enlarged coaching panel this season. P. J. Morrissey, a former Canterbury champion quarter-miler and Rugby All Black wing, and D. Minards, one of Canterbury’s leading sprinters in the early 1980 s, will assist with sprint coaching. N. Shipley, until recently a prominent A grade sprinter, will also help with this aspect of the sport. Hurdles will be under the control of M. Milham. - Formerly of Auckland, he won the New Zealand junior 120yds and 220yds hurdles championships in 1901. His time of 24.65ec for the longer event has not been bettered in the championship. R. Allen, a former Canterbury representative in middle distances, will coach middle distances, C. Freeman will look after throwing events, and J. Munnings jumping events. The club’s chief coach win again be Mr P. Davies, who has won a reputation as one of New Zealand’s finest sprint coaches. “This season we hope to cater for everybody, right down to under 15— not just the champions,” he said.
