MEMORIAL HUT
Bank’s gift to appeal Twenty-five dollars has been given to the Tristam Harper Memorial Hut appeal by the Geraldine branch of the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group, Ltd. The hut, which will be situated on Little Mount Peel, will be a memorial to the 22-year-old University of Canterbury law student who was killed last March when he fell on the Otira Slide Mount Rolleston. Tristam Harper was the son of Mr and Mrs R. P. Harper, of Woodbury, Geraldine. The gift was handed to Mt M. Acland by the manager of the Geraldine branch of the bank, Mr J. McLeod. He hoped the gift would encourage other companies, businessmen and farmers to support the appeal, Mr McLeod said. A further $2OO is still required to complete the project. The tramping hut will be situated above the Peel Forest Park on Little Mount Peel, and will be about half a day’s tramping from the park itself.
All young people and youth groups would be welcome to use the hut, Mr Acland said. Any further donations may be sent to Mrs D. S. R. Martin, Peel Forest, No. 2 R.D., Geraldine.
