LOCAL BODY FINANCE
No delay, says Minister There had not been any unwarranted delay on the part of the Committee on Local Authority Finance in investigating alternative sources of local body income, ot by the Government in dealing with any of the committee’s recommendations, said the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath), in a letter received by the Waimairi County Council on Thursday evening. The Minister was replying to a request from the council for information as to the activities of the committee, jointly representing the Municipal Association and the Counties Association, which is advising the Government. “This subject is a most complex and difficult one, to say the least, and requires a most exhaustive study in depth,” said the Minister. “I announced recently that the Government had received a further report from the committee on supplementary sources of income, and that this is now being considered. “I cannot indicate how much of the committee’s report will be acceptable to the Government, but I can say that there will not be any unnecessary delay in implementing those recommendations which are acceptable.”
