TWO MEN KILLED

A man was killed when his car ran off the road and rolled in a disused shingle pit about four miles west of Culverden on Saturday evening or yesterday morning. He was

Peter Topp, aged 23, single, of Medbury, Hawarden, who worked for the Marlborough Catchment Board at Kaikoura.

Mr Topp was the son of Mr W. T. Topp and Mrs Topp, of Medbury. Mr Topp is thought to have been driving toward Culverden when his car failed to take a comer at the intersection of the Top Pahau Road and School Road. After crashing through a wire fence the car is thought to have gone nose first into the shingle pit and then rolled several times. Mr Topp was found about 20ft from the car.

The accident was discovered by Mr B. Dalzell, of Culverden.

Struck bank A young driver was killed on Saturday morning when his car struck a bank on the Malvern Hills Road and overturned. He was David Ross Finlay, aged 18, an apprentice printer, of 44 Nottingham Avenue. In the accident he was thrown partly clear. Two other persons in the car suffered only minor injury.
