A house built for Nickel Spoon Mining, Ltd, at Arawata, had been built on the road reserve instead of the company’s section, the Westland County Council was told at its meeting this week. The chairman of the company (Mr S. S. Green) in a letter to the council said: “How the contractor could make such a mistake I do not know.” “The house needs to be shifted, but this is easier said than done. It appears that it would be easier to shift the road instead of the house,” he said.
The County Engineer (Mr B. G. Dowrick) said: “The house is built on the only dry piece of land in the immediate area and we cannot shift the road reserve. The house is no good to anybody as it is. “I suggest that as the house will not be occupied for some time it remain where it is until it is needed.” The council decided to give the company two years to shift the house, unless it were to be occupied before that time.
