“Bride of the year”

Mrs Helen Brown, formerly Miss Hedges, a bride of six months, won the “Bride of the Year” competition at a function organised by the Soroptimist Club of Christchurch, on Thursday evening.

Her wedding dress was of Swiss embroidered tulle, waisted, with a full skirt and pale blue sash trim. Her long veil, scattered with flowers, was held in place by a floral band which ended in a tie bow under the chin. Mrs Brown designed and made her own frock.

She works in a city fabric store and her husband, Mr Gerald Brown, is an agricultural technician. They were married in April at St Andrew’s College Chapel. Mrs Carol George, in a crepe dress with Chantilly lace cape and hood overlay, was second. Third was Mrs Jill Vincent in a highwaisted, Victorian - style gown.
