JOBLESS INCREASE
Benefit for 1157 (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 18. The total of unemployed registered with the Department of Labour increased by 189 to 2066 in the two weeks ended September 11, the Minister of Labour (Mr Marshall) said in a statement today. Of these, 1157 were receiving unemployment benefit. Male enrolments increased by 163 to reach 1672. Female enrolments increased to 394. The increase was mainly accounted for in Auckland and Northland, with most of the jobless being freezing workers affected by an industrial dispute. Included in the vacancies notified to the department are 1593 vacancies for skilled men, a decrease of 51 on . the number two weeks earlier. The number of tradesmen enrolled for employment throughout the country was 40, compared with 39. Semi and unskilled vacancies for men totalled 1176, a decrease of 83.
