Devlin’s 69 leading

Devlin, had a magnificent round of 69 over the wind-lashed, 7117 yard Port Marnock course yesterday in the first round of the Alcan “golfer of the year” tournament. He led by three strokes from two Americans, L. Trevino and B. Yancey. P. Oosterhuis (England), C. O’Connor (Eire), H. Johnson (United States) and B. Crampton (Australia) were on 73, M. Barber (United States), 74, B. Huggett (England), R. Rosburg and R. Murphy (United States), 75. The New Zealanders, R. J. Charles and J. M. Lister, were on 78 and 82, respectively.
