Box 9437, Wellington. 3488 MONOWAI POWER STATION There are vacancies at Monowai Power Station for: One Shift Operator: Vacancy No. 4310 One Operator Fitter: Vacancy No. 4311 The Power Station is situated 32 miles northwestwards by road from Tuatapere in Western Southland. Qualifications desired are an engineering trade apprenticeship and experience in the operation of heavy rotating plant, but as full training will be given for the job a man who feels he has an aptitude for this type of work should not hesitate to apply. REMUNERATION: SHIFT OPERATOR: Nominal salary $2985 p.a. with allowances, overtime and penal rates, gross earnings approximately $3700 p.a. OPERATOR FITTER: Nominal salary $2860 p.a. with allowances, overtime and penal rates, gross earnings approximately $3400 p.a. DUTIES: SHIFT OPERATOR— Watchkeeping which includes supervision and minor maintenance of hydro generating plant consisting of turbines, generators, switch-gear, transformers, etc. OPERATOR FITTER— Day-to-day maintenance of power station plant. Is also required to act as relieving shift operator. Training will be given for shift operating. PROMOTION PROSPECTS— There are prospects for promotion to more senior positions in this station or in one of the other 23 hydro stations operated by the Department throughout the country. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS— The station is manned continuously and three eight-hour rostered shifts are worked each day.
