CHRISTCHURCH DRAINAGE BOARD WARNING IN TERMS of the Board’s Act “no person shall, without written authority from the Board, sweep, rake, place or throw or discharge any matter or thing into any watercourse controlled by the Board.” This prohibition includes lawn clippings and other garden rubbish. Intensive efforts are being made to detect offenders and the Board will prosecute anyone found so offending. It is considered, however, that much of the rubbish finding its way into streams and other watercourses is placed there by residents without thinking of the problems that result. The major problem is that the rubbish accumulates and often blocks the stream causing flooding. The Board therefore appeals to all members of the public to refrain from throwing any rubbish into streams. This will ensure that streams and watercourses will present a more attractive appearance and at the same time will help them to be kept clear to carry out their main function of stormwater drainage. M. J. HORNE, Secretary. 3671 COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO HOUSING NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that public sittings of this Commission of Inquiry will be held in the Conference Room on the 10th Floor of the Bowen State Building, Bowen Street, Wellington, from Tuesday, September 29, to Friday, October 2, 1970, and Wednesday, October 7, to Friday, October 9, 1970, commencing at 10 a.m. each day. The Secretory should be so notified by September 23. Further sittings of the Commission will be held in Wellington, Auckland, and in the South Island, on dates to be advertised in due course. The Commission requires 50 copies of submissions which are to be heard at public sittings, but an endeavour will be made to hear persons wishing to give only oral evidence provided the Secretary is given reasonable notice prior to the commencement of a sitting.
