Less fuel
In just six years Johnson has reduced fuel consumption by 30 per cent. Engineering break throughs have led to frugal but powerful motors. The reason? There has been much research and many design developments by the Johnson Tech Centre engineering staff. For instance, the new powerpulse ignition system, increased compression ratios, exhaust tuning and improvements in gear ratios have played a significant role in the Johnson economy performance story. In 1962 fuel consumption on big motors was about .871 b of fuel per horsepower hour. Now it is down to as low as .61b per horsepower hour.
Another major reason for lower fuel cost is that less oil is needed. Twenty years ago boaters had to add oil at the rate of 12 per cent. Now that is down to 2 per cent with OMC Premium 50 to 1 Outboard Motor Oil and there is no need to use special marine fuels with a Johnson Sea-Horse.
