Although Christmas is three months away, bookings for accommodation on transTasman flights from Christchurch are already heavy. The demand for accommodation on jets crossing the Tasman has increased to such an extent that from the middle of August Christchurch and Sydney were linked by a daily service while from mid-December the service between Christchurch and Melbourne will increase to six flights a week. At present the MelbourneChristchurch service is twice a week although from midOctober it will be increased to three a week. By midDecember it will be six a week.
By March next year there will be a daily jet service between Christchurch and Melbourne.
Flood Relief Australia would give SUSIO.OOO to the Government of the Philippines to assist in flood relief, the Minister for External Affairs (Mr William McMahon) announced. Mr McMahon said that the form of the assistance would be determined in consultations with the Government of the Philippines.—Canberra, September 7.
