MURRAY NOW HOME
The familiar figure of S. ML C. Murray will probably not be seen on Lancaster Park Oval until the 1972 Rugby season. Murray was flown home to Christchurch from Auckland yesterday, but will spend the next two to three weeks in hospital under observation. Last month he said he planned to give up Rugby in 1971 to concentrate on his university studies. The Canterbury full-back became 111 on the morning of his team’s match against Auckland at Eden Park, and has been in hospital in Auckland for the last two weeks. He was extremely ill during
this period, lost the use of his legs, and his weight dropped to below lOst. He has been able to take only three or four faltering steps, but the pain in his back is now easing. The exact cause of Murray’s illness has not been disclosed, but it is known that no physical injury was involved. At the time he was Struck down by the illness he was third on the national firstclass points scoring list, with 59 points in seven matches. He scored a century of points for Lincoln College In the senior inter-club competitions this season.
