Sheep And Wool Study
A new series of| awards is planned from! the Vernon Willey Charitable Trust. The trust was established! in New Zealand about four years ago by Lord Barnby: (Francis Vernon Willey) who appointed the Guardian Trust and Executors Company of! ■New Zealand, Ltd, as trustee! and nominated an advisory' committee to decide upon dis-' bursement of the trust income. In terms of its discretion under the trust deed, the committee decided to concentrate on awards which would stimulate new developments to promote the sheep and wool industry in New Zea-
land. Already there have been promising results from projects and research financed (by early grants from the | trust. Awards will be considered Ito aid research and education I in the production, processing and marketing of wool, the (general development and im iprovement of the sheep anc | wool industry and the promo itibn of this industry for the (national benefit and advant age. Applicants for financia grants will need to satisfy the committee that their activi ties are likely to prove ol general public benefit. The work of recipients of award: may lie within either the academic or commercia

The results of the research 1 or studies are expected to be : covered by material suitable for publication in recognised 1 scientific or technical jouri nals. ? The ipembers of the : advisory committee are Lord - Barnby, Mr C. J. Ferrier. Mr 1 J. Boyd-Clark, the Vice-Chan--jcellor of the University of /Canterbury (Professor N. C. - Phillips), the Mayor of Christjchurch (Mr A. R. Guthrey), 1 and the Principal of Lincoln ;(College (Dr M. M. Burns). -!
