LEADERS GIVE SHAREMARKET A BETTER TONE
The New Zealand share market firmed under the influence of market leaders yesterday. Although rises and falls were almost equal in number the predomiiience of pace setters among the rises gave the boards a better tone. L. and M. Oil returned to the lists and found buyers up to 46c. a
Ballins Industries shares continued their run up and all classes sold higher. The building and timber leaders were better at the close and Alex Harvey. Fletcher Holdings and Taupo Totara made gains. Two second line stocks to do well were Claude Neon and -Wilson and Horton which both improved 7c. Tasman Pulp and Paper and Carter Consolidated lost some of their recent gains, possibly as a result of sellers taking their profits. Rights to some new issues came under selling pressure and lost ground accordingly.
