MISSING MACE
I Somebody has stolen part of [ [Canterbury's history. From! iits place above the fireplace! 'in the provincial superintendent’s office in the ProvinIcial Council Chambers a wooden mace has been taken. The mace, a symbol of authority, has been missing since Friday and detectives are trying to trace its whereabouts. The missing piece of wood, which is about 32in long, is thought to have been used in the days when Canterbury i had a government.
