PRIMARY TEACHERS Strike Collections Next Week
Christchurch primary schools will be among many in the country’ which might hold “rolling stoppages if salarynegotiations by the New Zealand Educational Institute with the Education Services Committee break down.
At its meeting on August 23 and 24 the national executive of the N.Z.E.I. decided that a plan of action should be prepared against a decision to hold rolling strikes in New Zealand’s primary schools.
The national executive was authorised to “make immediate preparations to withdraw teachers from (primary) schools” and to establish an emergency fund to support strike action. “Branch secretaries are re ceiving details from the national office on how donations for the emergency fund are to be collected. The collections will begin next week in most areas,” Mr G. A. K. Francis, the executive officer foi
the N.Z.E.1., told “The Press’ yesterday. He said that a group led by the institute’s president (Mi H. M. Hunter) had a 21-hour meeting with the Education Services Committee yesterday afternoon. The meeting will continue today.
