Transfer Of Division
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept, 6. The transfer of the Entomology Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research from Nelson to Auckland would be a benefit rather than a loss to the Nelson grower, said Dr P, J. Brook, of the D.S.I.R. Plant Diseases Division, at the Fruitgrowers’ Federation conference.
Answering critics of the move, Dr Brook said that many persons in Nelson felt that the los of the division would be a serious blow to the district.
Admittedly, it was much easier to deal with a man on the spot than with one several hundred miles away, but D.S.I.R. division had the whole country as their territory and must try to spread their effort fairly, he said. Closer integration of research work meant better consolidation of information to the grower. Therefore these should be a benefit, not a loss, to the Nelson growers when the division moved north.
