BOYCOTT ENDS
(N.Z. Press Association)
INVERCARGILL, Sept. 4. Southland’s coalfields beer'boycqtt has been lifted. Miners voted to cease the seven-month old boycott, at the annual meeting of the Nightcaps District Miners Union, in Nightcaps last night. The boycott, called in protest against a rise in beerprices, had been in force since late last January: it had affected four hotels in the area.
“We feel that we have achieved our ends and that there is little to be done by maintaining the boycott,” said the union secretary (Mr J. Peters). “However the decision in no way condones future price increases, and the union deplores the lack of positive action from the Parliamentary committee which was set up to investigate the beer-price I rise,” he said.
