PIPE OVER RIVER

Council Not

Approached

Permission had not been sought from the Heathcote County Council for a gas-pipe to be run over the Heathcote River near Studholme Street, nor did the Christchurch Gas Company have to seek permission from the council for the work, the Heathcote county clerk (Mr K. D. Stills) said yesterday. It was reported in “The Press" yesterday morning that the gas company had installed the pipe after obtaining permission from the Heathcote council. Ashgrove Terrace residents are reported to be unhappy about the unsightliness of the pipe across the river.

Mr Stills said yesterday he had been told that the gas company had obtained permission for the pipe’s installation from the Christchurch Drainage Board.
