Players United
If there have been troubles in the past between Rugby and soccer officials, particularly oyer the use of Lancaster Park when touring soccer teams have come to Christchurch, they have never extended to the players of both codes. Last Saturday, Christchurch United national soccer league players joined the club's float in the Ranfurly Shield parade before the Waikato match and
went as a group to cheer on Canterbury in defence of the shield. Yesterday, the coach of United (Mr G. Evans) received the following telegram: “Congratulations to yourself and boys on outstanding performance and final placing of the side this season. Best wishes for continued success in future years.” The telegram was signed: “Canterbury Shield Squad."
