NETBALL UPSET
N.Z. Players Not Chosen
Mrs T. Jamieson, coach of the New Zealand netball team to go to the world tournament in Jamaica in December, said she was “disappointed" in the absence of three New Zealand representatives from the North Island team chosen to play South Island last Saturday. Mrs C. Palmer and Miss T. Vercoe, of Rotorua, and Miss L. Mair, of Hutt Valley, who were ommitted by the North selectors are three of the 10 players chosen for Jamaica from the national trials held in Christchurch in June.
Equally surprising was the inclusion in the North side of a third grade player, Miss F. Collins (Western Bay of Plenty), who was an unimpressive centre. Mrs Jamieson said that such an embarrassing situation had not occurred before because North-South teams had never been selected after a New Zealand team had been chosen but had not played. The world championship is at the end of the present season. Mrs Jamieson said that the Rotorua executive presented a remit in May to the national . meeting of the netball associ- • ation asking that all New Zea- ‘ land teams be chosen at the < annual Dominion tournament 'The remit was lost ? The four New Zealand rep- - resentatives from the South .Island, all from Canterbury, ■ were in the South Island •■team which beat the North .Island. 30-29.
