Producer To Visit
Sir Tyrone Guthrie, the distinguished theatrical producer, will arrive in Christchurch next week to discuss a proposal that he might produce a play for the 1973 Christchurch Arts Festival. He has been invited to Christchurch by the executive of the Christchurch Arts Festival committee. A spokesman for the committee said last evening that Sir Tyrone Guthrie would be shown the plans of the theatre section of the! new town hall and would dis-| cuss proposals with the com-! mittee about the possibility of \ his producing a play or even an opera for the festival If an agreement was reached, Sir Tyrone Guthrie would spend several weeks ini Christchurch before the festival planned for March, 1973, the spokesman said. Sir Tyrone Guthrie admini-j stered Old Vic and Sadler’s! Wells from 1939 to 1945, was director of Old Vic from 1951! to 1952, founded the Tyrone! Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis in 1963, and has presented! productions in London, New! York, Australia, Finland and' Israel.
At present he is producing! in Australian universities. I
