(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Sept 1. Mrs Fanny Salisbury, who remembers armed, hostile Maori warriors passing her childhood home, celebrated her 102nd birthday at Te Kopuru, near Dargaville, on Monday. Born outside a Maori pa at Harangi Flats near Carterton, Mrs Sollsbury moved from the Wairarapa to Dargaville a year ago.
Now a resident of Eventide Lodge, Te Kopuru, Mrs Salisbury was married at 17 and had 12 children—all still liv. Widowed about 30 years ago, she has 139 great-grand-children and 13 great-great, grandchildren. Mrs Salisbury hopes to be out of the Eventide Lodge soon to stay with a relation, and to go to Carterton for Christmas a trip which would involve a bus to Auckland, plane to Wellington, and railcar to Carterton. In remarkable health. Mrs Salisbury has never been in hospital except for operations to her eyes. /Ithough she wears glasses, her sight is no worry, and she doe* not wear a hearing aid.
