LIFE-SAVING NEEDS
Call For More Activity
An increase in the number of instructors, examiners, : candidates and facilities were 1 among the requirements ! needed to foster the work of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Life-Saving Society (New Zealand), according to the annual report of the chairman (Mr S. E. Nicol. The total of 3126 resuscitation certificates issued during the year was a branch record, iMr Nicol said, but the overall number of awards—s 690 — was “not as many as we had hoped for." “It means that the resuscitation certificates total more than half of this year’s work. This aspect will bear serious consideration for we must have awards involving waterwork progressing at least at the same rate as a land-drill award," said Mr Nicol. Rangi-Ruru Presbyterian School for Girls won both the Walter Johnson Shield and the Collins Cup in the excellence competitions. The other successful competitors were Craighead School (Rosebowl), Hagley High School (Sir Henry Wigram Memorial Cup), Avonside Girls’ High School (Petersen Cup), Linwood Intermediate School (M. E. Lyons Memorial Trophy) and Spencer Park Surf Live-saving Club (Wigram Cup).
