Furniture Burnt
(N.Z, Press Association) DANNEVIRKE, Aug. 31. A truckload of household furniture was destroyed by fire on the main highway six miles south of Dannevirke today.
The furniture was being taken from Waipawa to Taumarunui by Stephenson Transport, Waipawa. The only items salvaged were a washing machine, clothes drier, lawnmower, and garden tools. The fire was well under way when the driver saw the smoke coming from the rear of the truck. The Dannevirke Volunteer Fire Brigade was called and additional water was carted by a tanker from the Ruahine Co-operative Dairy Company.
